Die epideiktische Rede, die der als Epistolograph bekanntere Plinius der Jüngere im Jahr 100 n. Chr. für Kaiser Trajan hielt, darf als Muster antiker Panegyrik (Herrscherlob) gelten. Da ihr Gegenstand nicht zuletzt das ideale Verhalten eines Fürsten ist, handelt es sich zugleich um einen ethisch-philosophischen Text. Diesen Aspekt wollen wir bei unserer gemeinsamen Lektüre in den Mittelpunkt stellen.
Ich bitte, zur ersten Sitzung den Beginn der Rede vorzubereiten. Das übliche Lektürepensum ist zwei bis höchstens drei Seiten in der OCT-Ausgabe.
