Contents, comment

The course takes place online on Thursdays from 10 to 12!

This course explores how scientific articles are read and interpreted, how research findings are presented, and how scientific arguments are developed. It is intended for students who wish to develop an appropriate skillset for literature-associated tasks in biotechnology.
While the first part of the course will focus on developing an understanding how to efficiently read a scientific document, the second part will highlight methods to interpret and present the content of a paper and critically discuss its credibility. These methods will later be applied to actually present a scientific paper in front of the other attendees.
After that, the course will give a brief introduction on how to write the manuscript for a scientific article and, in combination with that, how the process of peer-reviewing works. This term, the course will be taught synchronous over the video conference tool Zoom, with some asynchronous reading assignments that will later be discussed in additional online meetings.
