This course will provide an introduction to the philosophy of cognitive science. Topics covered will include:
• Behaviourism, functionalism and the mind-body problem
• The computational theory of mind (inc. the Language of Thought hypothesis)
• Challenges to the computational view (inc. John Searle’s Chinese Room argument and Hubert Dreyfus’ critique of A.I.)
• The nature of mental representation
• The problem of consciousness (inc. Jackson’s Mary argument)
• New approaches in cognitive science (inc. dynamical systems theory and embodied/embedded cognition)

Bachelor Einschreibung vor WS 11/12: Abschluss des ersten Studienjahres.
Diese Veranstaltung kann als Graduierten-Seminar im Rahmen des fachwissenschaftlichen Masterstudiengangs Philosophie angerechnet werden.

Voraussetzung für die Vergabe von 2 Leistungspunkten (Bachelor Einschreibung bis SoSe 11 und Master of Education) ist die regelmäßige und aktive Teilnahme sowie das Erbringen des schriftlichen oder mündlichen Beitrags im Umfang von maximal 1200 Wörtern für das Modulportfolio, auf dem die unbenotete Moduleinzelleistung beruht. Die Anforderungen für den Modulportfolio-Beitrag werden zu Veranstaltungsbeginn bekannt gegeben.
Die Voraussetzungen für die Vergabe von 3 Leistungspunkten im fachwissenschaftlichen Master werden zu Beginn der Veranstaltung bekannt gegeben.
