Das Problem des Gedächtnisse von Mehrheit und Minderheit ist nicht nur der Gegensatz zwischen dem Gedächtnisinhalten außereuropäischer Erinnerungen und deutscher Geschichte, sondern auch die fehlende Erinnerung an die Minderheitengeschichte in Deutschland selber. Gerhard Höpp stellte daher die Frage, ob die Mehrheit "blind für die Geschichte sei"? Das Seminar wird daher mit dem Blick auf die unbekannte Vergangenheit beginnen, um an Hand von Lektüre sich bis in die Gegenwart vorzutasten. Wesentlich ist dabei der Kontext der Minderheitengeschichte z.B. der Juden, denn die islamische Minderheit ist nicht die erste religiöse Minderheit in Deutschland.
Je nach Kenntnisstand und Notwendigkeit für das Verständnis werden religionswissenschaftliche Kenntnisse zum Islam ergänzt.
