This study group will focus on the uses of cinematographic techniques and language variation as devices in American films and series. As a group, we will initially consider cinematographic effects and the deployment of language variety in specific works chosen for analysis. Later in the semester, participants will choose a film or series and give a presentation on it, in groups or alone. Providing feedback and participating in post-presentation discussions will be required of the other participants. As this is a study group and not a seminar, it is a collaborative enterprise. The whole group is responsible each session for research, input, decisions, and contributions to discussions.

In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
