Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick über die Geschichte der römischen Republik von 133 bis 44 v.Chr., d. h. von dem Reformprogramm des Tiberius Gracchus bis zur Ermordung Caesars an den Iden des März. Ausgehend von der Ereignisgeschichte sollen auch soziale, ökonomische und kulturelle Entwicklungen dieser Epoche thematisiert sowie die Interdependenzen von Innen- und Außenpolitik behandelt werden, um die Krise der späten römischen Republik in ihrer Vielschichtigkeit zu erfassen und zu bewerten.
