This course examines some of the key questions related to the notion of development and the contestations surrounding it. The fact that poverty and inequality persistently remain as a global phenomenon, in spite of significant interventions and international aid, has posed both conceptual and practical problems. How do these contestations impact sustainable development? The recent focus on sustainable development has been a result of alarming environmental and climate degradation, but also because of a conscious effort in advocating and campaigning for this issue throughout the world. But there are its critiques too. This course will attempt to cover this debate from different angles, and look at some good and not so good practices from around the world. It will end with a capstone project of the students that will help put their learnings into action.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
