230291 British comedies in the second half of the 20th century (S) (WiSe 2016/2017)

Contents, comment

The seminar will be concerned with three plays which were written after World War II:
• Christopher Fry: The Lady’s not for Burning (1948)
• Tom Stoppard: Enter a Free Man (1968)
• Alan Ayckbourn: The Norman Conquests (1973)
The students will be asked to decide in how far these plays were influenced by changes in society after World War II. Each of these comedies can be performed by students at school after a number of alterations. The students in this seminar should suggest and discuss necessary changes for a performance at school (language and style, scenery, costumes, properties etc.)
