Die Veranstaltung führt in historische, typologische und variationslinguistische Aspekte des Deutschen ein. Die sprachgeschichtlichen Fakten werden unter den Gesichtspunkten des Sprachwandels und seiner Prinzipien betrachtet. Bei der Typisierung des Deutschen steht die Frage im Vordergrund, nach welchen Kriterien die typologische Einordnung erfolgt. Dabei steht der Vergleich mit anderen typologisch und/oder genetisch nahen wie auch fernen Sprachen im Mittelpunkt der Betrachtung. Die Behandlung des Deutschen unter variationslinguistischer Perspektive gewährt einen Einblick in die Vielzahl der Varietäten des Deutschen und den darin zu unterscheidenden Varianten nicht nur innerhalb des deutschsprachigen Kerngebiets sondern auch innerhalb von Sprachinseln in Süd- und Osteuropa und in Übersee.
Für diese Lehrveranstaltung wird ein Semesterapparat zusammengestellt.
