Die Artikulatorische Phonetik beschäftigt sich mit der Beschreibung und Modellierung der an der Sprachlauterzeugung beteiligten Artikulatoren, ihrer Bewegung und Bewegungsinteraktion. Hierfür ist ein gutes Verständnis der Sprechtraktphysiologie sowie der aus den Artikulationsbewegungen resultierenden akustischen Signalen erforderlich.
Die Artikulatorische Phonologie modelliert linguistische Lautkontraste und phonologische Prozesse durch die Interaktion verschiedener Artikulationsgesten. Artikulationsgesten werden bestimmt durch die an der Lauterzeugung beteiligten Artikulatoren sowie eine artikulatorische Zielstellung.
Im Rahmen des Kurses werden grundlegende Begriffe und Modelle der Artikulatorischen Phonetik und Phonologie eingeführt. Es werden verschiedene Fragestellungen der Artikulatorischen Phonetik und Phonologie theoretisch und teilweise in praktischen Aufgaben behandelt.
