In this seminar, we will be examining different cultural products by authors who make use of Pidgin (also known as Hawai'i Creole English) to tell their stories. To that end, we will first explore the language variety in its lexis and syntax compared to "standard" English, considering--among other things--the language contact situation on the islands during the genesis phase of the language. From there, we shall move on to close readings of Pidgin texts to get a feel for the people, the language, the literature and the culture of Hawai'i.
Literature will be made available in our Lernraum+.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
