Content of teaching: This module aims to present different perspectives that sovereignty has received in international relations theory and their implications to the current environmental and human challenges of the 21st Century: climate change and migration. For this, the module will firstly focus on (i) the different theoretical perspectives on sovereignty, from realism to post-constructivism. (ii) Subsequently, this module dedicates to recent discussions on specific themes in world politics in which sovereignty is a fundamental element for their understanding: the Polar regions governance, climate change and environmental displacement.

At the end of this module, students will be able to develop their own research questions, produce analysis and reflect on world politics issues in a more substantive manner, applying theory to empirical cases.
