Privatheit und Privatsphäre gelten - nicht zuletzt in digitalen Sphären - als Grundrechte und schützenswerte Bereiche. In vormodernen Gesellschaften war Privatheit im Sinne von ungeteilter räumlicher Sphäre nur wenigen Menschen, z.B. Geistlichen, vorbehalten; alle anderen teilten sich Schlaf- und Wohnräume.
Das Seminar möchte die Entwicklung von dieser geteilten Sphäre hin zu einer Vorstellung von Privatheit in der Frühen Neuzeit nachzeichnen.
Welche Dinge oder Medien waren an der Produktion von Privatheit und Intimität beteiligt? Mit welchen (Gender-)Konnotationen sind Privatheit und Intimität belegt? Was können wir aus der Möbel- und Technikgeschichte lernen? Wie wirkt sich diese "neue" Privatheit auf die Kunst aus? Wie wird sie dort reflektiert?
