Die Veranstaltung beschäftigt sich mit dem Beitrag ethnographischer Methoden für das Verständnis der postindustriellen, kapitalistischen Arbeitsgesellschaft. Ausgangspunkt ist eine Beschäftigung mit den Spezifika ethnographischen Arbeitens und der kulturwissenschaftlichen Arbeitsforschung; von hier aus werden dann Arbeits- (und Lebens)formen postindustrieller Gesellschaften betrachtet.
In empirischer Hinsicht stehen entsprechend Mikroanalysen und Akteursperspektiven im Vordergrund. Es geht darum, wie Akteur_innen die Arbeitswelt als alltägliche Lebenswelt gestalten und in ihr wirken. Der Bereich ethnographisch untersuchter Arbeitsfelder reicht von Software-Entwicklern und anderen Wissensarbeiter_innen über den klassischen Handwerksbetrieb und Fabrikarbeit bis hin zu Managerinnen und Obdachlosen.
