The seminar will give an introduction to the academic research on the phenomenon of irregular migration. On the one hand, it will present a theoretical overview and clarify different research approaches, connected terminologies and concepts of irregular migration. On the other hand, we will go into depth of some specific aspects that fall under researching irregular migration, such as transit migration, labor exploitation or deportation. Besides the lecture and discussion of relevant academic literature, we will integrate political and practical examples. Participation in the seminar is possible on the basis of an active lecture of the relevant seminar literature as well as engagement in the seminar debates and group discussions. This will be complemented through a presentation as well as a term paper (approx. 10 pages) that will be individually graded.
