996008 Methodological reflections on conducting and analysing qualitative interviews (S) (SoSe 2021)

Contents, comment

Qualitative interviews are among the preferred methods for gathering more or less unstructured data in social sciences and humanities. There is a lot of academic literature on how to ‘operate’ different varieties of qualitative interviews technically. However, reflection on the diverse conditions of qualitative interview studies, for example concerning the social implications of the interviewer-respondent-relationship for conducting and analysing interviews, is scarce. In this Method Class we will firstly discuss texts that deal with the challenge of reflexivity in qualitative interviews and secondly apply the gained reflexive knowledge to an empirical example. Participants’ previous experience with the use of qualitative methods is welcome but not mandatory.
The texts all participants have to read very carefully are available in the ‘Lernraum’.
