Ökonomische Daten fallen häufig in der Form von Zeitreihen, d.h. als zeitlich geordnete Folgen von Beobachtungen an.
Beispiele sind täglichen Schlussstände des DAX, die monatlichen Insolvenzen in NRW und die Jahreswerte des BIP.
In der Vorlesung werden zunächst deskriptive statistische Methoden für die Anwendung auf Zeitreihen behandelt. Anschließend wird die Formulierung und Anpassung stochastischer Modelle eingeführt.

Die Veranstaltung baut insbesondere auf den Inhalten von Statistik 1 u. 2, Ökonometrie und Mathe III (Differenzengleichungen) auf.
