Die Veranstaltung gibt einen Überblick über aktuelle Tendenzen und Probleme der demographischen Entwicklungen in Industrieländern, über die Ursachen, die Dynamik der Bevölkerungsprozesse und ihrer Folgen. Die Veranstaltung bietet eine strukturierte Einführung in die einzelnen Bereiche der Demographie. Am Beispiel ausgewählter Länderstudien werden grundlegende demographische Zusammenhänge zwischen den demographischen Prozessen, dem Bevölkerungswachstum und den Veränderungen in der Bevölkerungsstruktur analysiert. Außerdem werden überblicksartig Grundlagen der Bevölkerungsstatistik und den demographischen Methoden vorgestellt.
