Philosophische Probleme der visuellen Künste werden exemplarisch besprochen. Drei Schwerpunkte werden behandelt: (1) Photographie, (2) Spielfilm, (3) abstrakte Malerei des 20. Jahrhunderts. Bei (1) steht das Verhältnis von Wirklichkeit und Abbildung im Mittelpunkt sowie die Frage nach der Identifizierbarkeit von Bildaussagen. Bei (2) wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob Film als Sprache betrachtet werden kann. Bei (3) wird die Ausdrucksfunktion der Abstraktion erörtert (Gestus, Negation, Konstruktion, Dekonstruktion).
Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung (im BA-Studiengang) werden zwei Kurzklausuren und ein Referat, für einen Leistungsnachweis (im Magister- oder Lehramts-Studiengang) wird eine Seminararbeit erwartet.

BA-Studiengang: Abschluss des ersten Studienjahres.
Magister- und Lehramts-Studiengänge: Zwischenprüfung.
Grundkenntnisse in philosophischer Ästhetik.
