Michael Zimmermann

Born in 1959.

Attended Oberstufenkolleg [high school college] (German, art and art history) in Bielefeld.
Studied German language and literature and history at Bielefeld University.

Theatre director training at the AG Darstellendes Spiel OWL, further training with Katya Delakova, Gaetano Cartolaro, Simon Edwards and Marian Masoliver, among others.
Participation in various theatre projects and in independent groups.

Temporary Lecturer at the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies since 1993, specialising in the history, theory and practice of theatre pedagogy and performing arts in schools and independent cultural work.
Since 1997, he has worked full-time in cultural education as an education officer at the Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft (LAG) Spiel und Theater NRW. Responsible for the conception and implementation of basic training in theatre education and for the management of the "manufactur" theatre house in Herford.

From 2007 to 2025, member of the Executive Board of the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Spiel und Theater, most recently as Chairman. Member of the board of trustees of the Theatertreffen der Jugend at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
