Erkenntnisse und Methoden der Informatik sind mittlerweile ein fester Bestandteil moderner Industriegesellschaften und beeinflussen die uns heute geläufigen Formen der Natur- und Geisteswissenschaften in erheblichem Maße. Aus diesem Grund ist das Ziel des Bachelor-Nebenfachs Informatik, Studierenden aus allen Bereichen die Möglichkeit zu eröffnen, die grundlegenden Konzepte der Informatik zu verstehen sowie die Fähigkeit zu erwerben, diese Konzepte in der Praxis anzuwenden und deren Folgen abzuschätzen.
Insbesondere lernen die Studierenden den prinzipiellen Aufbau und die grundlegende Arbeitsweise eines Rechners kennen, um diesen ganz selbstverständlich als Werkzeug für die tägliche Arbeit zu akzeptieren. Neben reinen Routinetätigkeiten gehört hierzu auch die Beteiligung an der Konzeption und Entwicklung von Softwarelösungen für praktische Probleme aus dem Kernfach. Dabei werden (u.a. objektorientierte) Programmierkonzepte erworben, die auch ein selbstständiges Einarbeiten in eine andere Programmiersprache ermöglichen. Zudem können Aufgabenstellung aus dem Bereich der Informatik so erläutert werden, dass sie von InformatikerInnen verstanden und umgesetzt werden können. Umgekehrt sind die Absolventinnen und Absolventen in der Lage, die vorgeschlagenen Lösungswege auf die Praxistauglichkeit im Anwendungsgebiet hin zu überprüfen. Insgesamt sollten die Studierenden befähigt werden, sinnvolle Entscheidungen über die Konfiguration von Computersystemen, über die Planung und Durchführung von Softwareprojekten und über die Beschaffung und den Einsatz von Software vorzubereiten und mitzutragen.

The study places are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines. Afterwards, however, you can submit your application for enrolment directly in the application and status portal, provided that you meet the access requirements. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme.
