Interdisciplinary approaches
The Bachelor's degree programme in Linguistics at Bielefeld University integrates various disciplines such as the humanities, computer sciences, social sciences and neurosciences. This interdisciplinary approach promotes a comprehensive understanding of linguistic communication and its diverse aspects.

Practice-orientated teaching
The programme combines theoretical foundations with practical applications by testing the theories developed on specific linguistic issues. This enables students to apply and deepen their knowledge directly.

Research and development
The close link between teaching and research offers students an early insight into current projects and developments in linguistic research. This experience promotes critical thinking and the ability to utilise new scientific findings.

Diverse areas of expertise
The degree programme covers a broad spectrum, including semantics, grammar, phonetics, discourse analysis as well as neuro-, computer- and psycholinguistics. This diversity allows students to pursue their individual interests and specialise.

Skills for the labour market
The skills acquired during the programme prepare students optimally for various professional fields in which knowledge of language and language use plays a central role.
The program opens up a wide range of career opportunities in various fields, such as:

Language Technology: Graduates find employment in language technology, where they can work on the development and optimization of speech processing systems, for example in software development or at companies that offer voice-controlled technologies.
