Competencies

Die Studierenden sollen sowohl theoretische Grundlagen als auch handwerkliche Kenntnisse über das Themengebiet erwerben. Die vermittelten Inhalte sollen den Studierenden eine Grundlage für die visuelle Analyse von Daten liefern. Als Anwendungsfelder sollen verstärkt Daten aus den Naturwissenschaften besprochen werden.

Content of teaching

In dieser Vorlesung werden die Grundlagen der Information Visualization, also der Repräsentation von Daten und Datenräumen mit Hilfe der Computergrafik behandelt. Neben einer grundlegenden Einführung in das Thema der Datenvisualisierung und in die kognitionspsychologischen Aspekte werden vor allem neue Techniken und Anwendungsgebiete der Visualisierung besprochen: Glyphen, Hyperbolic Trees, Netmap, Virtual Worlds etc.

Die Modul(teil)prüfung kann in einigen Studiengängen nach Wahl der Studierenden auch "unbenotet" erbracht werden. Vor Erbringung ist eine entsprechende Festlegung vorzunehmen, eine nachträgliche Änderung (benotet - unbenotet) ist ausgeschlossen. Wird diese Option gewählt, ist es nicht möglich, dieses Modul zu verwenden, um es in einen Studiengang einzubringen, in dem dieses Modul bei der Gesamtnotenberechnung berücksichtigt wird.
