Module 39-Inf-DB2 Advanced Database Systems

Die Vorlesung vermittelt ein tieferes Verständnis von Datenbanksystemen, ihrem Aufbau, Implementierung und Anwendungen. Die Vorlesung vermittelt ebenfalls Grundlagen zu Techniken des Data Mining und der Datenintegration. Die Behandlung von konkreten Datenbankanwendungen in den Bereichen Semantic Web, Bioinformatik und Multimedia rundet die Vorlesung ab und liefert praxisrelevante Kenntnisse. Die erworbenen Kenntnisse sollen die Studierenden zur (Weiter-) Entwicklung von Datenbanksystemen sowie zur Realisierung nicht-trivialer Datenbankanwendungen befähigen.

The lecture conveys a deeper understanding of database systems, their structure, implementation and applications. The lecture also conveys basic techniques for data mining and data integration. Practical exercises dealing with database applications in the areas of semantic web, bioinformatics and multimedia complete the course and provide practice-oriented experience. The acquired skills should enable students to (further) develop database systems and non-trivial data base applications.

Das Modul erweitert und vertieft Datenstrukturen, Algorithmen und Architekturprinzipien von Datenbanksystemen. Dazu werden insbesondere die folgenden Themengebiete behandelt:

• Physikalische Datenspeicherung (Filestruktur, Indices, Hashing etc.)
• Anfragebearbeitung und -optimierung
• Transaktionsmanagement
• Recovery und Concurrency Control
• Verteilte und Föderierte Datenbanken
• Data Mining und Data Warehouses
• Schema- und Datenintegration
• Anwendungen (Bioinformatik, Semantic Web, Multimedia, Geographische Datenbanken)
