Anja Rathmann-Lutz studied history, art history and museum management in Hamburg.
In 2007 she received her PhD there with a thesis on the "Images of Louis IX the Saint of France" (Berlin: Akademie 2010).
Until 2014 she was an assistant professor at the Departement of History at the University of Basel (Middle Ages and Renaissance). Since then, she has held various teaching positions there and conducted research in her project "Perception of Change in the High Middle Ages" (Habilitation 2020/21). From April to September 2022 she joined Bielefeld University as "Akademische Oberrätin". From October 2022 on she teaches at the University of Tübingen.
She is currently working on a project in body history with the working title "Körperordnungen des Politischen. Material and medial aspects of the 'body politic', (9th-16th c.)".
