230752 Englisch: English for Social Sciences, Level B2/C1 (S) (WiSe 2014/2015)

Contents, comment

This course is based on reading original texts in sociology and political science including research
articles. Writing and speaking English will also be practiced with an emphasis placed on using the
social science vocabulary necessary for comparing and analysing complex social and political
systems in the English language. The course will offer students the option of presenting their own
academic work to the class in English . For others who do not wish to practice with their own
academic work a group project will simulate participation at a professional meeting.

The course will be conducted on a Pass/Fail basis and three credit points will be awarded as a result
of passing the course. Regular attendance is necessary for passing the course since the student’s
participation in in-class discussion counts as one third of the work toward passing the course.
