The German-taught Bachelor's degree programme in Public Health (B.Sc.) at Bielefeld University is aimed at anyone looking for a scientifically sound and at the same time practice-oriented basic education. It teaches the theories and methods of health sciences and enables students to develop their own individual profile. The course content of Public Health includes health counselling and education, health management, organisational counselling and health system design, health reporting and epidemiology, nursing and care research, demographic foundations of health and social security as well as environmental and planetary health.
The professional basis strengthens personal development and labour market-relevant skills; practical experience can be gained early on.

Students also have the opportunity to choose one of three profiles in the specialisation phase of the degree programme and thus develop more specific, in-depth skills in one subject area:

  • Health behaviour and health conditions
  • Health communication
  • Healthcare and healthcare system

This specialisation facilitates the transition to an appointment. Career prospects for public health graduates exist at health insurance companies and insurance companies, consumer and patient advice centres, health and disease associations, healthcare companies and in workplace health promotion as well as at radio, film and television stations, internet agencies, publishing houses and public relations departments. Health authorities and government agencies also offer attractive entry-level positions.
