Music is much more than just a subject. It accompanies us in our everyday lives, whether as a listener in a concert or at a festival, as a producer of songs and beats on your own tablet, or as a musician in a choir, band or ensemble.
In the Bachelor's programme in Music for elementary schools, students learn about music in all its diversity. They expand and deepen their skills in singing and on their instrument, make music together in ensembles and come into contact with current research questions and methods. In addition, they build up profound knowledge in the field of music education, enabling them to teach children and young people about the diversity of musical manifestations. Some courses are interdisciplinary and take into account the interdisciplinary work in elementary school as well as the aesthetic-artistic learning in the context of cultural education.
The Bachelor's degree is usually followed by a Master's degree in a teaching-related programme leading to a Master of Education or an artistic-scientific programme leading to a Master of Arts (e.g. Master's degree in "Mediating Culture"). In the Master of Education, the fundamentals of musical teaching and learning developed in the Bachelor's degree are deepened, applied, and reflected upon during the practical semester.
Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).
