Das Ausbildungsprogramm "Genomforschung" fokussiert auf die Vermittlung allgemeiner Grundlagen der molekularen Biologie und der Genetik (Bakterien- und Phagengenetik, Molekulare Genetik, Eukaryotengenetik) sowie der strukturellen und funktionellen Genomforschung. Es wird biologisches, methodisches und laborbezogenes Grundwissen vermittelt, das die Studierenden befähigt, die mit den unterschiedlichsten und immer ergiebigeren Methoden ermittelten Daten über Genome und biologische Systeme einzuordnen. Da in der Genomforschung die Datenhaltung, -aufbereitung und -verknüpfung oft mittels fertiger Werkzeuge realisiert wird, die durch Skripte verknüpft sind, wird die Analyse von Postgenom-Datensätzen mit geeigneten Skriptsprachen behandelt.

Daten aus Methoden der Genomforschung werden mit Hilfe der Bioinformatik so aufgearbeitet, dass aus ihnen Erkenntnisse und Einsichten gewonnen werden können. Das Nebenfach Genomforschung ist mit dem Kernfach Informatik, Profil Bioinformatik zu studieren. Diese Kombination qualifiziert analog zum auslaufenden 1-Fach B. Sc. "Bioinformatik und Genomforschung". Qualifikationen in Bioinformatik und Genomforschung werden in den Lebenswissenschaften, der Medizin, der Biotechnologie und der biologischen Forschung zunehmend gebraucht. Mit einem Studium der Genomforschung im Nebenfach und der Bioinformatik im Kernfach erwerben die Studierenden Fähigkeiten und Kompetenzen für dieses innovative Arbeitsfeld.

Das Kernfach Informatik mit dem Profil Bioinformatik, kombiniert mit dem Nebenfach Genomforschung, bildet den auslaufenden 1-Fach B. Sc. Bioinformatik und Genomforschung ab.

The standard period of studies is 6 semesters.

The studies Minor Subject (Academic), 60 CPs Genome Research comprise 60 credit points.

Access requirements

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).

Special conditions apply to applicants with a foreign certificate of education.

Likewise, special conditions apply to those qualified in vocational education and training.

Application, admission and enrolment ¹

The study places are subject to local admission restrictions (numerus clausus). You need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines.

As soon as you receive a positive response in the application and status portal (admission notice from the Student Office after the expiration of the application deadline and the main allocation or second allocation (‘Nachrückverfahren’) procedures), you can submit your application for enrolment within the set deadline. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme. After the deadline expires, the study place will be allocated further.
