The Master's degree programme M.Sc. Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy provides you with the necessary knowledge and skills for the diagnosis, treatment and examination of mental disorders. It is a prerequisite for the state examination for licensing as a psychotherapist. In the sense of a science-practitioner model, the programme strives for a close link between scientific work and clinical-psychological practice.

In the course of the master's degree programme, you will deepen the knowledge you acquired in the bachelor's degree programme in the areas of basic discipline, diagnostics, and research methods and expand these in each case from a clinical perspective.

In addition, you will independently complete clinical projects on practice-oriented issues and write your master's thesis at the end of the programme.

The clinical-psychological focus of the programme offers you an overview of the basics of psychotherapy as well as an in-depth understanding of individual disorders and procedures, taking into account the current state of research. It allows an in-depth study with offerings from the areas of:

  • Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy
  • Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and Psychotherapy
  • Clinical Neuropsychology

In practical seminars and therapy simulations, you will also acquire skills in psychotherapeutic work with patients across the age range. This knowledge is expanded through practical assignments in the outpatient as well as inpatient care of patients, and these practical experiences are supplemented through in-depth seminars and events of supervision and self-reflection.

Due to the broad clinical infrastructure (psychotherapeutic and neuropsychological university outpatient clinics), we offer you close-meshed support, especially during the phase of practical qualification. This is supported by the wide range of supervision and counseling services offered by both the Department of Psychology and Bielefeld University, and enriched by close networking with local inpatient psychotherapeutic and psychiatric facilities.

The programme has gained the professional recognition in accordance with the Psychotherapists Act and the Approbationsordnung für Psychotherapeutinnen und Psychotherapeuten (Approval Regulations for Psychotherapists).
