By completing the module, students acquire the following skills: They understand and master the (theoretical) basics of selected areas of media and information technologies. They know the approaches and methods or procedures dealt with in the respective course and understand what they are used for and how they work. They can explain the methods using examples. They are also able to design and develop digital media in interdisciplinary teams and check whether given requirements are met. Furthermore, they can familiarize themselves independently with other areas of media and information technologies.
In this module, students deal with fundamental and current topics in media and information technologies. The content of teaching in the module includes, for example, basic courses from the areas of: Media informatics, databases, intelligent learning systems, image and sound processing and generation, augmented/virtual/extended reality or human-computer interaction. The specific content of teaching in the module is determined by the courses chosen by the student. The choice from the courses on offer is based on personal interest.

For each of the three topics 1, 2 and 3, students must choose thematically different courses totalling 4 CP. There are the following five options in each case:
- an introductory lecture with 2 CP + associated accompanying exercise (in connection with lecture/seminar) with 2 CP
- an introductory lecture with 2 CP + associated accompanying seminar with 2 CP
- an introductory seminar with 2 CP + accompanying exercise (in connection with lecture/seminar) with 2 CP
- an independent seminar with 4 CP
- an independent project with 4 CP (specific projects are listed by teaching staff in the electronic course catalogue (ekvv) and issued by the teaching staff. Students can contact the teaching staff if they have specific interests/topics).
The examination is completed in topic 1. In topics 2 and 3, a study requirement is completed in each case.

Depending on the choice of courses in Topic 1, one of the following examinations must be completed:
- Introductory lecture (2 CP) + accompanying exercise (2 CP): Portfolio: Solving at least 50% of the exercises; final examination: written examination of 90-120 minutes or oral examination of 15-25 minutes on the contents of the lecture
- Introductory lecture (2 CP) + accompanying seminar (2 CP): Portfolio: Presentation (30-45 minutes) in the seminar; final examination: written examination of 90-120 minutes or oral examination of 15-25 minutes on the contents of the lecture
- Introductory seminar (2 CP) + accompanying exercise (2 CP): Portfolio: Solving at least 50% of the exercises; final examination: presentation of 30-45 minutes including subsequent discussion in the seminar
- Independent seminar (4 CP): presentation of 30-45 minutes and written elaboration of 10-15 pages
- Independent project (4 CP): Completion of the project task and written elaboration of 8-12 pages
