Competencies

Non-official translation of the module descriptions. Only the German version is legally binding.

Students are able to plan the selection of modules to be studied in their Master's programme in such a way that the competence objectives can be achieved in the course of the programme, in particular that all requirements for writing a Master's thesis are met.

Depending on the individual design of the modules

  • students are able to assess key aspects and opportunities of their future appointments and make experience-based decisions about their professional future.

or

  • acquire central, supplementary interdisciplinary competences ("general skills") for their future appointments.

Content of teaching

A study plan agreement (SPA) is concluded with a potential supervisor for the master's thesis. The SPA provides students with a pathway to a Master's thesis in that the agreements made there for a study programme of 30 credit points provide students with orientation in the selection of their courses on the one hand, and on the other hand students receive certainty that if they study the agreed content, the Faculty, in particular the supervisor who co-signed the agreement, will assign a Master's thesis topic that can in principle be mastered with the knowledge and skills acquired. Students can generally adapt or renew SPAs. Approval for the Master's module requires a completed SPA.

In addition, students can choose between the following alternatives:

  • Students complete an internship in business, administration or research. The internship should be supervised by a teacher from the Faculty.
  • Students acquire further general skills, e.g. by working as a tutor at the Faculty, by a computer internship or by acquiring relevant certificates.

The SPA is an agreement that students conclude with a potential Master's thesis supervisor. In it, a study programme comprising 30 credit points is defined in the protocol, the completion of which adequately prepares students for writing a Master's thesis with the co-signing supervisor.
The workload for this examination is completed with the preparation of the SPA.

The module is used in these degree programmes:
