Das Masterstudium Linguistik vermittelt unter Einbeziehung der in Bielefeld vertretenen linguistischen Forschungsbereiche ein besonders breites Spektrum an fortgeschrittenen inhaltlichen Kenntnissen und methodischen Fertigkeiten, die Absolvent*innen in die Lage versetzen, sprachliche, kommunikative und kognitive Strukturen und Prozesse systematisch zu beschreiben und in den Rahmen aktueller linguistischer Theoriebildung einzubetten.
Mit Hilfe der erworbenen Kompetenzen können Absolvent*innen qualitative, quantitative und grammatiktheoretische Analysemethoden selbstständig auf komplexe sprachliche Phänomene und damit verbundene Fragestellungen anwenden. Zudem kennen Absolvent*innen die Grundlagen computerlinguistischer und neurolinguistischer Analysen sprachlicher Strukturen und Prozesse. Durch eine frei wählbare Schwerpunktsetzung innerhalb der Bereiche Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft, Computerlinguistik, Kommunikation, Laborphonologie und Experimentalphonetik, Neurolinguistik und Psycholinguistik oder auch im Phänomenbereich der klinischen Linguistik sieht das Masterstudium neben der mastergerecht vertieften, breiteren Basisausbildung darüber hinaus eine zusätzliche individuelle Vertiefung vor.
Der Studiengang ermöglicht die Qualifikation für eine akademische Laufbahn in Forschung und Lehre und eröffnet außerdem Perspektiven auf zahlreiche Berufsbilder, etwa in den Bereichen forensische Linguistik, interkulturelle Kommunikation, Medien und Journalismus, technische Dokumentation, Text- und Sprachtechnologie, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, Unternehmenskommunikation, Mensch–Maschine-Interaktion oder Sprachdidaktik.

Studies can be commenced in both winter and summer semesters. Courses are targeted to commencing studies in winter semester. Student counselling to plan the course of studies is recommended.

Access requirements
Access requirements
Access to the Master programme is granted to those who can provide evidence that they have a first university degree which has a standard period of study of at least six semesters, qualifies for exercising a profession and is in accordance with the subject-specific regulations.

Degrees from accredited Bachelor programmes at German ‘Berufsakademien’ are equivalent to Bachelor degrees from universities.
Applicants with a university degree obtained abroad are granted access provided that the degree they have acquired is deemed sufficient for this purpose and they can provide evidence of the required language skills.

Application, admission and enrolment
The study places for this degree programme are not subject to any admission restrictions (numerus clausus). Nevertheless, you need to apply within the currently applicable application deadlines.
As soon as you receive a positive response in the application and status portal (notice of access from the faculty), you can submit your application for enrolment within the set deadline. If you are already enrolled at Bielefeld University, you need to apply for a change of degree programme.
