Ursula Mense-Petermann is professor of economic sociology and the sociology of work at Bielefeld University’s Faculty of Sociology. Previously, she was professor of sociology at the Economics Department of the University of Klagenfurt, Austria. Her current research focuses on economic globalization and on transnationally mobile work. The processes and problems of transcending (political and cultural) boundaries in the economic realm are at the centre of her research interests. As a member of the Institute of World Society Studies (IW), she is also interested in world society theory and the world society-specific social structures (“Eigenstrukturen von Weltgesellschaft”, vgl. Stichweh 2001), like global/transnational labour markets.
