From September 2019, I work on the European Research Council (ERC) funded project “Welfare for Migrant Factory Workers: Moral Struggles and Politics of Care under Market Socialism” led by Professor Nguyen. This project is a comprehensive study of the politics of care in China and Vietnam, which is the political struggles around how different groups of people amongst the migrant factory workers should be cared for. This politics of care underlies the state policy-making of welfare provision for migrant factory workers and their families. It reflects the wider moral struggles between the state, the market and the third sector. It focuses on the power dynamics in the process of policy-making and the everyday construction of welfare discourses in the lawmaking and regulative institutions, local government administrations, workplaces, and beyond.
