Dieses Seminar bietet einen ersten Einstieg in die sozialwissenschaftliche Geschlechterforschung. Anhand ausgewählter Schlüsseltexte werden in dem Seminar zum einen verschiedene theoretische Konzepte von „Geschlecht“ diskutiert, wie z.B. die Unterscheidung zwischen sex und gender und die kritische Reflexion und Infragestellung dieser Kategorien im Kontext von queeren Ansätzen, die kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Konstruktion der Zweigeschlechtlichkeit, Geschlecht als Prozess- und Strukturkategorie und Intersektionalität. Im Anschluss daran setzen wir uns mit der Frage auseinander, wie Geschlecht in soziale, ökonomische, politische oder rechtliche Organisationsformen der Gesellschaft eingeschrieben ist, was Gleichstellungs- und Antidiskrimierungspolitik bedeutet und auf welchen Ebenen diese Ansätze wirksam werden können.
