This seminar is intended for those intending to teach at secondary school level: Hauptschule, Realschule, Gymnasium or Gesamtschule. It will cover a broad spectrum of topics related to evaluation, assessment and testing. Among other topics we will consider "alternative" forms of assessment such as portfolios, and the ways in which teachers can assign marks that reflect performance fairly and accurately without resorting to crude and misrepresentative techniques such as counting mistakes. There will be a particular focus on assessing speaking skills.
This seminar is aimed at those teaching at secondary schools.
The readings for the weekly sessions will be provided on StudIP. Some of the books on the reading list I will post there are not in the library, but in my private possession: you are welcome to borrow them.

Everyone, including those who only need two credit points, will be required to take part in a presentation, with the main focus on an aspect of evaluation and assessment. Presentation groups should also prepare a short handout and post it, or their presentation slides, on StudIP. Those who need 3 LPs will get part of their mark for their presentation and handout. There will not be a class test for marks, but everyone will take part in a class quiz. A satisfactory performance in this is regarded as part of active participation.
