Es ist der Grundgedanke einer vergleichenden Literaturwissenschaft, dass kein Text rein aus sich selbst verständlich ist. Erkennen bedeutet, Dinge in eine Beziehung zu setzen, mithin sie zu vergleichen. Im besonderen sind es freilich die anderen Künste und Wissenschaften, die Literaturen anderer Sprachen und Epochen, zu denen die vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft sich in Beziehung setzt. Die dreistündige Einführung hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Ihnen hier zu einem Überblick zu verhelfen. Soweit möglich, sollen die Probleme nicht abstrakt, sondern an literarischen Texten verhandelt werden.
