Molekularbiologie, Chemie, Biophysik und Bioinformatik haben in den letzten Jahren eine schnelle Entwicklung erfahren und sind in weiten Bereichen zu einem neuen Typ von „interdisziplinären Lebenswissenschaften“ verschmolzen. Diese Entwicklung ist für die Medizin von großer Bedeutung. Die molekularen Grundlagen von Erkrankungen können mit den neu entstehenden Forschungsansätzen besser untersucht werden als dies zuvor der Fall war. An der Universität Bielefeld gibt es eine lange Tradition der interdisziplinären Lebenswissenschaften und eine zunehmende Zahl von biomedizinischen Themen in der Forschung. Mit dieser Veranstaltung soll Studierenden ein vertiefender Einblick in dieses sehr aktuelle Forschungsfeld gegeben werden. Dozenten der teilnehmenden Fakultäten und auswärtige Gäste aus Instituten und Kliniken werden Krankheitsbilder, molekulare Ursachen und Behandlungsansätze vorstellen.
Im Seminar werden Themen der molekularen Medien diskutiert. Dabei werden sowohl Krankheitsbilder wie molekulare Techniken vorgestellt. Auch ethische Fragen sollen Thema sein.
