This seminar is an introduction to narrative film, with a focus on the historical evolution of the film medium and the development of U.S. American cinema through its different eras. The seminar concentrates on close analysis and criticism of U.S. American films from a wide time range, from the early silent period, classic Hollywood genres to contemporary and groundbreaking films, in order to enable a deep understanding of cinema as a highly influential cultural artifact.
