Dinge stellen einen wesentlichen Teil historischer Praxis dar – sie sind neben den klassischen Text- und Dokumentquellen ein wesentliches Objekt historischer Forschung. Als Museale Exponate und Archäologische Forschungsgegenstände formen sie die historische Konstruktion der Vergangenheit wesentlich mit. In diesem Seminar werden wir versuchen den Grundlegenden Konzepten und Praktiken nachzugehen, die diesen Stellenwert der Dinge in der Geschichte hervorbringen, und den Fragen nachgehen, die sich hieraus ergeben: Was genau ist ein Objekt, was ist ein Ding? Was sagen Dinge aus, und inwiefern sprechen sie für sich selbst? Und welche Analysen erlauben historische Dinge, welche Möglichkeiten eröffnen und verschließen sie?
Das Seminar wird sich hierbei verschiedenen theoretischen Perspektiven aus Anthropologie, Wissenschaftsforschung und Kunstgeschichte widmen um sich einem Gegenstand zu nähern, der komplizierter wird, je genauer hingeschaut wird.

Keine fachlichen Vorkenntisse notwendig. Da einige Texte auf Englisch gelesen werden wird Bereitschaft zum Lesen und Diskutieren englischer Fachliteratur vorausgesetzt.

Es wird eine fünfzehnminütige mündliche Prüfung auf Basis eines Thesenpapiers geben. Die Note wird mit der analogen Prüfung des Teilmoduls Historiographie verrechnet und als Modulnote vergeben. (Die Teilmodule können in unterschiedlichen Semestern belegt werden.)
