220091 Geschichte des Neoliberalismus (K) (SoSe 2018)

"Neoliberalismus" ist ein außerordentlich umstrittener Begriff. Im öffentlichen Diskurs ist er vor allem als abwertende Bezeichnung für marktfreundliche oder marktradikale Positionen präsent. Im wissenschaftlichen Gebrauch dient er aber auch als Bezeichnung für eine breite, von Ökonomen getragene theoretische Strömung, deren Eintreten für "Markt" und "Freiheit" eine klar erkennbare historische Dimension aufweist.

In den 1930er Jahren als intellektuelle Antwort auf den Bedeutungsgewinn sozialistischer und keynesianischer Positionen entstanden, fristete diese Strömung in der Nachkriegszeit zunächst – mit der Ausnahme der Bundesrepublik – ein Nischendasein. Seit den späten 1970er Jahren trat sie dafür umso wirkmächtiger in Erscheinung . Sie beinflusste maßgeblich die mit den Namen Thatcher und Reagan verbundene wirtschafts- und gesellschaftspolitische "Wende" in Großbritannien und den USA. Auch in Schwellenländern wie Chile, bei der Transformation der osteuropäischen Staaten nach 1990 und in der Vorgeschichte der Finanzkrise von 2007/08 spielte sie eine zentrale Rolle.

Vor diesem Hintergrund werden wir in der Veranstaltung den Begriff des Neoliberalismus, seine Formierungsphase, seine Umsetzung in wirtschaftspolitische Strategien und seine Auswirkungen bis in die Gegenwart analysieren und historisieren. Die Historische Kontextualisierung wird zudem von einem Seminar (220092, Quellen und Texte zur Ideengeschichte des Neoliberalismus) begleitet, die vor allem die ideengeschichtliche Dimension des Themas genauer in den Blick nimmt.

Da ein erheblicher Teil der Forschungsliteratur in englischer Sprache vorliegt, sind gute englische Lesekenntnisse für die Teilnahme an der Veranstaltung unabdingbar.
