Den Gegenstand der zweisemestrig angelegten Veranstaltung bilden philosophische Theorien der Entwicklungsmuster wissenschaftlicher Theorien. Der Sache nach stehen dabei Probleme der Beschaffenheit empirischer Prüfungen von Theorien im Vordergrund sowie empirische und nicht-empirische Qualifikationsmerkmale von Theorien. Im zweiten Teil geht es um die Versuche, in Aufnahme der Kuhnschen Herausforderung die Rationalität des Theorienwandels zu bestätigen (etwa bei Laudan) oder umgekehrt die von Kuhn behaupteten Unsicherheiten bei der Beurteilung von Theorien noch stärker zu akzentuieren (wie bei Feyerabend oder im Sozialkonstruktivismus).
Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung im BA-Studiengang werden Termpaper oder schriftliche Antworten auf gestellte Fragen erwartet. Auf Wunsch kann eine mündliche Prüfung abgelegt werden.
