230825 Academic English for Economics: the Macro and Micro Environment (level B2, Abiturniveau+) (S) (SoSe 2009)

Contents, comment

This course will focus on technical language needs of students studying economics. We will consider the micro/macro economic consequences of a number of simple scenarios. Topics will generally follow the same development as introductory economics classes. Students will look at the relationship between language and mathematical/economic information. The course will make use of a variety of resources for example, textbooks, audio-visual and more. In class time will focus on communication practice and discussion.

Prerequisites- Students must have completed Abitur level English, CEF level B1 or equivalent. Students should be familiar with the basic concepts of Economics or be concurrently taking subjects in economics

Workload/Assessments- Students will be expected to complete at least one hour of out of class work (homework) for each hour of study. All students must successfully complete all assessment tasks in order to pass this subject. Assessment will include (but is not limited to) attendance, participation, in-semester tests and a final exam. More details will be given at the orientation lecture.
