This class will start with an analysis of the beginnings of British detective fiction in the 19th century, then focus on the two masters of the genre, Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie and their contribution to the history of detective literature and lastly discuss examples from the work of three more contemporary authors, Josephine Tey, P.D. James and Val McDermid.
2 credit points can be obtained by giving a presentation in class, 3 credit points by an additional essay on the same topic.
