Shakespeare’s drama Richard III, written about 1592, was one of his first great successes. The play was in fact so successful that Richard III for centuries has remained the most maligned king in English history.
The first part of the seminar will be concerned with the undeniable success of the play and how this success was achieved. The second part deals with Josephine Tey’s detective novel The daughter of time, published in 1951. This highly unusual detective novel focuses on King Richard III from a different perspective.
