This seminar focuses on global dimensions of social policy making with a particular focus on the activities and advice by international organisations and actors dealing with, and influencing, national social policy. This includes the World Bank, ILO, WHO, OECD, and others. After an introduction into concepts and approaches to social policy, what we mean by global, and the links between globalisation and social policy, we look at different social policy fields and global prescriptions on social policy. We also discuss global dimensions of social policies redistribution, regulation and rights.
The course lectures, reading material and discussions will be in English. This may in-clude secondary literature, primary documents, academic articles, films and podcasts. Therefore, a strong command of English will be necessary to be able to participate in the class.
At this stage the course will primarily be online, with a mix of flexible learning units and zoom discussion and lecture sessions.
