If the world is composed of physical matter and physics is the science that studies the principles governing this matter, why do we need any other science besides physics? In the last decades, philosophy of science has attempted to understand what (if anything) makes sciences such as biology, cognitive science, psychology, economics and sociology indispensable and, indeed, special. In this course we explore conceptual topics on this attempt, such as laws, explanation, classification and causation across the sciences.
Please note that the course starts on October 19 (there is no meeting on October 12)
The readings will be available on the online platform Lernraum.
