Students of the Humanities are more and more often confronted with the need to broaden the focus of their qualifications to include digital methods and project management skills which make them eligible to the job market outside university.
The course will focus on the design, planning, and implementation of digital methods for historical research projects. It is conceptualized as a project seminar comprising phases of teaching in attendance as well as phases of project work outside the usual course format.
In the first part of the semester we will concentrate on familiarizing participants with current research and methods in the field of Digital Humanities in Germany and the United States of America. This will be followed by a first phase of practical work of designing history projects using digital methods. During the middle of the term we will have a lab phase at university that will be supervised by two lecturers. As their course work the students will design posters presenting their work at the end of the term.
