Protest, violence and revolution are patterns of collective action which are discussed in many disciplines, among them are history, political science, sociology and anthropology. Focusing on the 19th and 20th centuries we will critically discuss relevant concepts, methods and case studies written by authors like E.P. Thompson, N.Z Davis, Ch. Tilly, E. Selbin. A strong focus will be put on urban and spatial aspects, which are until now neglected aspects in this field of research.
